Yamataka Jindai Zakura
Located in Yamanashi Prefecture, the Yamataka Jindai Zakura stands alongside Miharu Takizakura in Fukushima and Usuzumi Zakura in Gifu as one of Japan's three great cherry trees. It was also designated as Japan's first natural monument. Estimated to be 1,800–2,000 years old, this cherry tree has survived through an unimaginably long history and continues to bloom to this day. Its sacred beauty often inspires visitors to instinctively press their hands together in reverence. With a height of 10.3 meters and a root and trunk circumference of 11.8 meters, it is revered as Japan's oldest and largest cherry tree.
In 1990, Yamataka Jindai Zakura was selected as part of the "New Japan's Top 100 Trees." During the cherry blossom season, approximately 80,000 daffodils bloom around it, creating a stunning contrast of yellow at its base and pale pink above. Additionally, the temple grounds house the "Cosmos Sakura," a cherry tree that reportedly traveled to space and returned to Earth. It is currently on display to the public.
Wani Zuka Zakura
The Wani Zuka Zakura is another Edo-higan cherry tree, estimated to be about 330 years old. With a trunk circumference of 3.6 meters and a height of 17 meters, it stands gracefully on a high ground known as "Wani Zuka," surrounded by farmland. Its majestic appearance was featured in the opening scenes of the 2004 TV drama Sakura Saku Made. On clear days, visitors can enjoy views of both Mount Fuji and the Yatsugatake Mountains, making it a precious natural monument in Nirasaki City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
Misaka Farm "Peach Blossom Festival"
Located in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, a renowned fruit-growing area, the Misaka Farm hosts an annual Peach Blossom Festival in spring. Vibrant pink peach blossoms signal the arrival of the season, while fields of yellow rapeseed flowers below create a breathtaking color contrast. During the festival, visitors can enjoy an all-you-can-eat BBQ set meal paired with delicious snacks and roam through the romantic peach blossom fields.
