Nagano – [Karuizawa]

Karuizawa is one of Japan’s top resort destinations and a prime location for ecotourism. Known for its lush larch and white birch forests and pleasant natural surroundings, it is home to luxurious villas and a favored retreat for Japan’s upper class. According to legend, the Emperor met his lifelong partner here.

(Choose One of Two Itineraries)

This outlet is often called Japan’s most beautiful outlet mall. With over 200 brand-name stores, it even includes a golf course and ski area. Divided into five zones, it offers a wide range of shops, from global luxury brands to popular Japanese labels.

Itinerary 2: Hoshino Resorts Area (Karuizawa)

The liveliest and most popular resort area in Karuizawa, allowing visitors to explore its rich natural beauty at their own pace.

  • Kumoba Pond
Also known as “Swan Lake,” Kumoba Pond is a narrow artificial lake in Karuizawa, Nagano. It’s a scenic spot famous for its year-round beauty and is designated as part of the Kumoba Landscape Area.

  • Kogen Church (Highland Church)
Originally a cultural gathering hall in the Taisho era, it was rebuilt after WWII into a large wooden triangle-shaped chapel known for its tranquil, subdued atmosphere.

  • Hoshino Onsen (Hot Spring) (Admission fee not included)
Operated by the Hoshino Resorts group, this hot spring is famous for its “beautiful skin water.” Nestled at the foot of the mountains, it features open-air baths with panoramic views.

Saitama – [Kawagoe]

Known as “Little Edo,” Kawagoe flourished during the Edo period. The town is full of Edo-era ambiance, Western-style buildings from the Taisho era, and nostalgic alleyways from the Showa period.

Kawagoe Highlights

  • Hikawa Shrine
A popular destination for those praying for love and good relationships. Many traditional weddings are held here, and the shrine features a tunnel of wooden wish plaques (ema) and a unique omikuji (fortune-telling slip) experience where fortunes are hidden inside small red snapper-shaped toys that are fished out with a rod.

  • Kurazukuri Street (Warehouse District)
Lined with historical Edo-era buildings and temples, this district is known for its black-tiled warehouse-style architecture and is designated as a “Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings” in Japan.

  • Toki no Kane (Time Bell Tower)
A symbol of Kawagoe, this bell tower dates back over 400 years. Though rebuilt several times, the current version is the fourth-generation structure. Now powered by a mechanical clock, it still rings regularly each day.

  • Kashiya Yokocho (Candy Alley)
A nostalgic alleyway full of traditional Japanese candy shops, where you can experience the charm of old-fashioned sweets and treats.
