Enryaku-ji is known as the "Mother Mountain of Japanese Buddhism," having nurtured many monks.

Shiga — Omihachiman / Hachiman-bori Canal

(Includes free time for lunch and self-guided activities)

Hachiman-bori is a man-made canal running through central Omihachiman City, connecting the town to Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake.

At the end of the 16th century, the Toyotomi family built a castle and moats on Hachiman Mountain and developed the castle town below. The moat later became a hub for water transport. During the Edo period, merchants shipped goods nationwide via Hachiman-bori. The white plaster warehouses and small boats along the canal create a timeless scenery often used as locations for Japanese period dramas such as Rurouni Kenshin and Mito Komon.

Experience the traditional Japanese architecture along the moat—an elegant journey blending history and waterways.

Shiga — Ishino-dera / Kyorinbo Temple

(Free time for self-guided activities)

Located in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture, Kyorinbo Temple is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku in 605 AD. The temple exudes a serene wabi-sabi atmosphere with countless large stones spread throughout. From mid-November to early December, the autumn maple leaves create a picturesque, almost otherworldly scene.
