【Aomori Nebuta Matsuri (Seat Viewing)】
Event Period: August 2, 2025 – August 7, 2025
Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset in 1980, the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri is held from August 2 to August 7 every year, attracting over 3 million visitors from Japan and abroad. The festival features more than 20 large Nebuta lantern floats, inspired by kabuki, history, and mythology. Accompanied by warriors and dancers, the floats parade through the streets as the Haneto dancers move in sync with music and chants of "Rasseraa", creating a breathtaking spectacle of Sakagami Tamuramaro's legendary story.
【Akita Kanto Matsuri (Seat Viewing)】
Event Period: August 3, 2025 – August 6, 2025
Young performers dressed in white socks showcase their impressive skills by balancing Kanto lantern poles (up to 13 meters tall and weighing about 60 kg) on their shoulders, waists, or foreheads. The glowing lanterns form a stunning "river of light" along the streets, resembling golden rice ears when combined with the poles.
【Yamagata Hanagasa Matsuri (Free Viewing)】
Event Period: August 5, 2025 – August 7, 2025
This festival features energetic chants and powerful Hanagasa Taiko drums, with over 10,000 dancers wearing colorful costumes and holding decorated flower hats as they perform along Yamagata’s main streets. The parade is led by luxuriously decorated festival floats, creating a mesmerizing cultural experience.
【Sendai Tanabata Matsuri (Free Viewing)】
Event Period: August 6, 2025 – August 8, 2025
The Sendai Tanabata Matsuri is celebrated with handmade decorations, some over 10 meters tall. Each bamboo display costs hundreds of thousands to millions of yen, creating a competition for the most extravagant and luxurious decorations.
