【Yamanashi】Lake Shoji

In 1895, British traveler Harry Stewart Whitworth was so mesmerized by the beauty of Lake Shoji that he built a Western-style hotel with sweeping lake views. He introduced the area to Europeans as a summer retreat where one could admire the majestic Mt. Fuji. This helped attract many foreign tourists and earned the nickname “Switzerland of the East.”

【Yamanashi】Kodomo Fuji (Child-bearing Fuji)

Lake Shoji is also known for a unique sight called “Kodomo Fuji.” From the north shore, you can see Mt. Fuji with Mt. Omuro nestled in front, resembling a mother cradling her child. Mt. Omuro is actually a volcanic cone formed by an eruption on the slopes of Mt. Fuji—making it quite literally “Mt. Fuji’s child.”

【Yamanashi】Oishi Park at Lake Kawaguchi

During summer, lavender blooms beautifully across Oishi Park by Lake Kawaguchi, painting the landscape in a purple hue that perfectly complements Mt. Fuji in the background. In autumn, the park’s kochia (summer cypress) turns a vivid crimson, adding a cute and colorful touch. The park also hosts the popular Kawaguchiko Herb Festival.

【Kawaguchiko Cherry Blossom Festival】

Seasonal (April 1–13)
Oishi Park will not be visited during this period.

Held on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi (near the lakeside circular hall), this festival is a famous spot to photograph Mt. Fuji, the lake, and blooming cherry blossoms all in one frame.

【Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Corridor】

Seasonal (October 20–November 26)
Oishi Park will not be visited during this period.

The scene of snow-capped Mt. Fuji set against a backdrop of blazing red maple leaves is unmissable. This once-a-year spectacle turns the shores of Lake Kawaguchi into a dreamlike landscape that draws visitors from far and wide.

【Yamanashi】Mt. Fuji Yoshida Street

This quiet road leads toward Mt. Fuji and resembles a “ladder to the clouds.” At its end, Mt. Fuji appears almost within reach. The route is home to the famous Instagram hotspot “Nikkawa Clock Shop,” popular for its classic Japanese streetscape.

【Yamanashi】Oshino Hakkai

Oshino Hakkai consists of eight clear spring-fed ponds, formed from Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt filtered through lava layers. Known for its pristine environment and beautiful views of Mt. Fuji reflected in the water, it's a favorite destination for photographers. It is designated as a Natural Monument of Japan.

【Yamanashi】Lake Yamanaka

As one of the Fuji Five Lakes, Lake Yamanaka is known for a spot called “Swan Bay,” where many swans gather. It’s an excellent place to observe wild birds and photograph swans with Mt. Fuji in the background. The swans are friendly due to frequent feeding by visitors.
