Atami – Atami Plum Garden (Free Time)

Atami Plum Garden is one of Japan's earliest plum gardens, with a long history. It features 469 plum trees and other flowers, making it a prime spot for plum blossom viewing during the blooming season (November to early December).

Beyond plum blossoms, the garden offers cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery and fireflies in early summer, and autumn foliage, allowing visitors to enjoy Japan’s four seasons year-round. Notably, its autumn leaves are famous for being "Japan’s latest to turn red."

From mid-November to early December, the "Atami Plum Garden Autumn Leaves Festival" is held annually.

Shizuoka – Shuzenji Temple (Free Time, Optional Lunch & Onsen Experience at Own Expense)

Shuzenji Temple is a two-star attraction in the Michelin Green Guide Japan, located in the heart of the Izu Peninsula. It boasts the oldest hot spring in Izu and is a historic, culturally rich hot spring resort. A popular vacation spot, it is also the setting for Yasunari Kawabata’s The Izu Dancer and was beloved by literary giants like Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Natsume Soseki, earning it the nickname "Little Kyoto of Izu."

Recommended Free-Time Attractions:

  • Lovers’ Bridge (Koibito Bridge)
The town has five red iron bridges crossing the Katsura River: Katsura Bridge, Kokei Bridge, Kaede Bridge, Togetsu Bridge, and Bakushita Bridge. Each represents a different wish, and legend says that if a girl makes a wish while crossing them, it will come true.

  • Soto Zen Temple – Fukuchi Shuzenji
Founded in 807 by the monk Kobo Daishi during the Heian period, this 1,200-year-old temple has a legend where Kobo Daishi, moved by a filial son caring for his sick father, struck the ground with his staff, causing a hot spring to emerge. The son used the spring’s waters to heal his father, making the temple’s hot springs famous.

  • Bamboo Path
Walking through the bamboo grove and standing on the bridge overlooking the Katsura River, visitors can immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere, listening to the rustling bamboo and birdsong.

Shizuoka – Shuzenji Nijino Sato (Free Time)

Shuzenji Nijino Sato is a nature park divided into Western and Japanese-style zones.

  • The Western Zone recreates a 17th-century British countryside.

  • The Japanese Zone showcases traditional Izu culture, offering hands-on experiences in Edo-period crafts like yuzen dyeing, pottery, and embroidery.

Shuzenji Natural Park – Maple Forest (Free Time)

Shuzenji, a representative tourist spot in Izu, Shizuoka, is surrounded by the largest maple forest in the region—Shuzenji Natural Park. Around 1,000 maple trees cover the vast grounds, turning vibrant red from mid-November to early December.
