Introduction to the Palace Museum

The Palace Museum, located in central Beijing, China, was formerly known as the Forbidden City. Serving as the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420–1912), it is one of the world's largest and best-preserved ancient wooden architectural complexes. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, it is now a national 5A-level tourist attraction.

Covering approximately 720,000 square meters, the Palace Museum boasts over 980 buildings with more than 8,700 rooms, showcasing the essence of traditional Chinese architecture along a central axis. It is divided into two main sections: the Outer Court (Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Central Harmony, and Hall of Preserving Harmony) and the Inner Court (Palace of Heavenly Purity, Hall of Union, and Palace of Earthly Tranquility), which served as the emperor's political and residential center.

Today, the Palace Museum houses over 1.8 million precious artifacts, including calligraphy, paintings, ceramics, jade works, and timepieces. Masterpieces such as Along the River During the Qingming Festival and the Golden Eternal Stability Cup are considered national treasures.
